She blew me away!

I was sitting in one of my CS classes the other day, and there was this girl sitting two rows behind me. Now you're gonna think I'm gonna say how hot she was. But, I am sorry to disappoint you my friends. This girl sitting behind me was obviously sick. A flu, cold or disease of some sort. Anyhow, during the one and a half hour period, as all of the class was floating in silence, and the clear voice of the professor was smoothly instructing the class, this girl blew her nose with the loudest possible sound for over 30 times! I am not joking, I was just sitting there and there she was going:

PHEEEEEEE......PHEEEEEEEE.....PHEEEEEEE....PHEEEEEEEEEE....PHEE PHE PHEEE PHEEEE... PHHPHPHPHPHPHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE...

AND she repeated this every 15 minutes! For God's sake, get you butt to the freakin' washroom! Like when I get sick and want to blow my nose even ONCE, I hesisate, and if I ever do it, it'll be the most silent ever that barely bothers the person next to me. However, this girl almost blew the prof away!

It makes you wonder though, students were all sitting there so careless, so passive. But it bothered me sooo much that I started laughing! I mean if this was in Iran, the prof himself would stop to watch this scence as the whole class stared with 3 eyes and a zoom lens, while half the class laughing their head off. Wow I am shocked as how different people can be!

Wikipedia!

I just made a $10 donation to Wikipedia. For those of you who don't know, Wikipedia is an online encyclopedia that is totally put together by people's contribution and indivual additions. As in, every visitor can easily edit ANY entry in there. For example you can lookup the definition of the word "Iran" and then, you have the option to edit the entry as you like. It is a very very interesting project, and it is getting very big and popular as more people visit it and make contributions to it. The more people that visit it, the more complete it gets. Their ultimate goal is to gather all of human knowledge in one place. I praise that goal. I think, there'll be a day when human beings would no longer be able to live, unless they put all their minds and knowledge together. As different fields are getting more focused and complex, the need for sharing knowledge, and relying on other people is growing extensively.

Thus, I made the donation to help keep their servers running. "قطره قطره جمع گردد، وانگهی دریا شود". I encourage you all to take a closer look at this interesting encyclopedia. Start by looking for something interesting. You'll find all sorts of things there; from Ghosts to Bermuda Triangle to Quarks and Photons. This encyclopedia has got it all.

Perhaps, I should take the time to define "Barobax" for it sometime soon. So go ahead, use your imagination, because Albert Einstein once said: "Imagination is more important than knowledge".

From freedom of Iran, to poll results

5 days left to freedom of Iran?! That's what I read on www.ahura.info. As I opened the website, I went through what they call "فراخوان" which is basically their list of things which they think is the common ground for those who want a free Iran. I liked their list. It was like a wish list one would put on his homepage. Eventhough I have always hated people like this who are living in a dream world; and I always laughed at them on their Los Angeles based TVs, I started thinking about the guy a little bit. He is going to travel to Iran in 5 days to start a change of regime. Eventhough his mission is going to fail dramatically, I think it takes a lot of courage to do this. Isn't better than those people who are just sitting on their chairs and swearing at the regime, and tempting people to do something? At least the guy is doing something. His putting his own life at risk. I sorta like that.

Anyhow, enough of politics. ISAW is waiting for confirmation for the date of its Persian party at the Bomber. Thursday, October 7 is our proposed date. Let's hope we can get it.

Assignments, crawling all over me. My CS240 assignment took FOREVER! I spent hours and hours on it. It's almost done now. Tons of others still to be completed.

I see interesting results on this latest poll. Looks like there are all sorts of people in the barobax circle. Ok that's it for now.

Fly over Waterloo!

I don't know why I forgot to post this earlier. A few days ago, our CS prof brought some aerial pictures of Waterloo which he had taken himself. He said that his friend is a pilot and he wants to get a degree so he needs like 40 hours of flying experience. He said that the pilot rents the plane for like 80 bucks or something and wouldn't mind taking people for a ride if they donate some money. As I remember, he said that the plane is a 4 seater. So like 4 of us can get together, chip in 20 dollars each and go for a ride for like half an hour. I personally think it's great!

If you're seriously interested about it, let me know, he said he can hook us up with the pilot.

What up?

Life is getting back on track. Once again, new things happening. Fall term along with its new students has come, and ISAW is observing new faces. ISAW's elections was rather different this year, with many candidates being from the frosh.

Hopefully, this term is going to be a great term for ISAW. As the Iranian student body grows, ISAW is able to expand, and to organize bigger and better events for us Persians here at Waterloo.

Percentage of party/alcohol has dramatically dropped in our blood. Thus, I am going to the FEDS office tomorrow to book the Bombshelter for the first party of the term. I am hoping we can make this a big one by advertising it well in advance with posters all over the campus.

The day, the music, died..

"...Oh and there we were all in one place, a generation lost in space with no time left to start again, so come on, Jack be nimble, Jack be quick, Jack Flash sat on a candle stick because fire is the devils only friend, oh and as I watched him on the stage, my hands were clinched in fists of rage, no angel born in hell could break that satan's spell and as the planes climbed high into the night to light the sacrificial right I saw satan laughing with delight, the day, the music, died..."

Girls vs. Boys Here At Waterloo!

I passed by the ISAW stand yesterday and took a look at the sign-up list for the club. Out of about 20 people who had signed up 17 of them were guys. 1 was gay and 2 were girls!

That is bad news of course for you single guy friends of mine here at Waterloo. Keep in mind that such situations never get better, the later you act, the worse the situation gets. However, since the day of dawn God was born a guy, and he in fact is one handsome guy who enjoys giving privilege to girls. Just like the bouncers at REV who let all the hot chicks pass through VIP while all the guys are freezing in the long ass line up which goes up the hills all the way to the upper parking lot. As a result of such unbalanced population the girls at Waterloo now have a huge conservatory of guys wandering around on campus. You can think of the Niagara Butterfly Conservatory to better visualize the situation. And of course many of these girls think that all these guys are either liars, bastards, cheaters or simply ugly. Which I think is somewhat related to noses and the top of the skies. Go figure. I'm warning myself, as this is a sensitive topic! I am probably going to get shot at some time today on campus as I am walking by the Bomber patio.

With elections being very close the Persian feminist movement of U of W has sensed a great danger. Names such as Pooya, Navid and Payam shake the foundations of the great "ZZ" monument which was long built by the girls during the past terms of ISAW. Meanwhile, I shall give hope to you guys that "azizan donya haminjoor nemimoone, sob mishe aftab miad roo boome khoone" That is ISAW's piggy bank shall no longer be pink and sparkels are not going to appear on our posters again. Army pants and Swiss army knives shall become the must have gadgets of the term, and we even encourage you to bring your Hummer catalogs to movie nights for a more enjoyable time pass.

Keeping the rules of "ZZ" and "Tarof Shabdolazimi" in mind, I would like to also thank our highly respected feminist groups for making our previous terms very very enjoyable. Peace be upon you. And just as a reminder... uhh I think you can unload your shotguns now. Thank you. Arghhh... Bye.

Funny Profs, ISAW elections

2 days of school went by and I attended all 5 lectures up to now. This term I am doing 3 CS courses, 1 Management course and 1 English course. Aside from ENGL 119 which has the most boring prof on the face of UW campus, the rest are all awesome classes. The profs are really funny, they speak fluent English, they know their stuff and they can teach well. I am surprised. I think I am going to enjoy my classes this term. Let's see if the tough assignments can overcome this opinion of mine.

ISAW will be holding a stand in the SLC on Thursday and Friday, I'll be there as well as many other barobax. So drop by the stand if you like.

The elections for ISAW will be held on Monday in DC 1302 at 6:00 PM. I'm still getting my thoughts together, but I might run for ISAW's presidency this term. Is there anyone who would like to accompany me in making an election party?

On Campus Now!

Hello World!
Time is now 9:29 AM and I am on the UW campus right now. Sitting in the stinky computer labs of Math & Computer (MC) building, while I enjoy the cool breeze of the air conditioning system with a touch of body smell and mouth breath. First day of classes indeed. Here I am facing new "Things" on campus; frosh walking all over the place like angels of God sent from heaven by FedEx. The math undergrad office having moved to the 4th floor of MC, and the poster exhibition getting open at the SLC. Campus is not as crowded as last year though, the time when the doors of heaven opened wide and the double cohort angels got loose. Love was spreading all around the place, and MC was full of colors of pink & pink! With ties but not short skirts being automatically ignored by my sophisticated scanning mechanism, formerly known as my eyes.

ISAW (Iranian Student Association of Waterloo) is holding a stand in the SLC on Thursday & Friday this week, promoting the best of barobax (to be) on campus to join the "stay_safe_do_nothing_but_have_fun" group. They shall remedy the nights of getting drunk and doing nothing but playing "cheshmak".

And of course our class schedules being messed up as usual and Persians taking the easiest of all courses on campus. This term the bird course appears to be ENGL 119, with Ali Gh. taking the course as early as God sent Jesus down to earth and Bahareh, Armaghan and Mammad QUICKLY following him, the course is a MUST TAKE! So here I am having my signed override form for this lovely lovely English course in my hands, happily typing this message to you all as I am self-struggling to digest the green, raw banana that I had this morning as my breakfast.

Movable Type my friends is the answer to remote blogging capabilities, that of course you do not understand. Thou shall not know, Thou shall be saved.

PEACE upon you barobax, citizens of this blue planet.

Pooya! What the hell are you up to?!

Yes, Yes, I know, I'm screwing up with the site. Site has been dead for a while. No new pictures, no new links, no new polls, no new posts, no new NOTHING! I am very disappointed in myself. I was so disappointed that I even thought of suicide, that is shutting the site down. But then I had a change of heart. I went to Costco.com and ordered a camera. A Canon Powershot A85. I shipped it to Sanaz who's in the States now. Many thanks in advance Sanaz. She'll be coming to Waterloo on October 8, so I'll have my camera then.

I might put the site on hold for a week or two. I am not sure yet. I am waiting for the term to start, if the site gets back on track, then fine, I'll keep it up, but if not, then I'll take it down untill October the 10th. I will try my best to launch the new look on that date. Along with pictures taken with my new camera to accompany it.

Frosh Week

We're approaching the last week before school starts. Here at Waterloo the weather is uncertain of where to stand, as the temperature struggles between the lows of 10 and 11 to highs of 27 and 28. Barobax wandering around confused, not knowing whether to settle down with their movings, see the coming home barobax in town, finish work reports or just spend the last few days chilling with the family.

Frosh week will come soon. Cheers of "Water Water Water... loo loo loo" will fill University and Columbia streets and everywhere on campus. The massive pink tie will be hung over the math building, and Waterloo's nightclubs will be filled with girls and guys of age 19 with huge amounts of energy to transform!

The first week of school shall be a fun week. With tutorials being called off, and classes falling short. Friends coming back from co-op terms and the newly renovated DC library getting filled with Persians once more! Time to buy books again and remember classroom numbers. RCH 301. DC 1351.

Soon after we'll be nagging about midterms. We will be deep in there, in the pile of exams, projects and assignments. Yet, with all these ups and downs, this whole university experience is one hell of an experience in any student's lifetime. Keep this in mind, you will soon be out of here, and you shall even miss the feeling you had before writing each test, before dropping each assignment, and before walking inside that classroom. These are the best times of our life. We shall Cherish them.
